In July 2012, the Academy held its first Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) which sought to institute the amendments endorsed by the then Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) to receive formal recognition as a charitable organisation. The proposed constitutional changes were voted in by all Fellows present.

Following the EGM, the Academy hosted its first ever Informal Fellows Gathering at Nanyang Technological University and brought together more than 35 Fellows for a night of lively exchange and networking.
